چکیده

This paper presents a powerful and general purpose tool designed to extract characteristic lines from 3D images . The algorithm, called Marching Lines, is inspired from the Marching Cubes algorithm, which is used to extract iso-value surfaces from 3D images. The Marching Lines algorithm extracts with sub-pixel accuracy the 3D lines corresponding to the intersection of two iso-surfaces from two di erent 3D Images. We show how to implement this algorithm to ensure that the reconstructed 3D lines have good topological properties, mainly that they are continuous and closed. We also present a new method to compute the di erential characteristics of iso-surfaces, and show an application to the extraction of crest lines in 3D Images. We explain that a crest line can be locally de ned as the intersection of two surfaces, one corresponding to an iso-value in the image, and the other one to a crest surface which we de ne in this paper, and whose implicit equation can be directly computed from the voxel values of the 3D image. Finally, experimental results for 3D images of the skull are presented, where crest lines are extracted, and used to compute automatically the geometric transform between two 3D scanner images of the same subject, taken in two di erent positions.

Crest lines extraction from 3D triangulated meshes

We present an automatic crest lines extraction method from 3D triangulated meshes. We use a bivariate polynomial to approximate the surface locally and calculate the principal curvatures and directions on every vertex and a tracing algorithm to extract the crest lines. We show crest lines on various triangulated meshes and evaluate their invariance under rotation and stability under scaling.

3D Detection of Power-Transmission Lines in Point Clouds Using Random Forest Method

Inspection of power transmission lines using classic experts based methods suffers from disadvantages such as highel level of time and money consumption. Advent of UAVs and their application in aerial data gathering help to decrease the time and cost promenantly. The purpose of this research is to present an efficient automated method for inspection of power transmission lines based on point c...

Landforms identification using neural network-self organizing map and SRTM data

During an 11 days mission in February 2000 the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) collected data over 80% of the Earth's land surface, for all areas between 60 degrees N and 56 degrees S latitude. Since SRTM data became available, many studies utilized them for application in topography and morphometric landscape analysis. Exploiting SRTM data for recognition and extraction of topographic ...

Following Feature Lines Across Scale

We present an algorithm to extract space curves, deened by diierential invariants, at increasing scales. The algorithm uses an extension of the 3D Marching Lines that allows us to search for iso-surfaces and their intersections in spaces of arbitrary dimension. Speciically, we have implemented a 4D extension that we apply to track lines eeciently on iso-surfaces. We show that it automatically n...
